Two Tips for People Who Want to Have a Single-Storey Home Built

If you plan to have a single-storey home built by a contractor, you may find this advice to be useful.

Prioritise ventilation and air conditioning

One of the most important single-storey home design tips you should follow is that your home should have a high-end air conditioning system and should be extremely well ventilated.

This is because if your entire home is on the ground floor, then it might not be safe to keep your windows open for long periods of time in order to cool the property down on hot days or to let some fresh air in, particularly when you are sleeping, as doing so could increase the risk of an intruder climbing in through a window (something which is very easy to do, if said window is just a few feet off the ground).

As such, it is sensible to ensure that the contractor integrates features such as wall vents and a powerful air conditioning system into the building. This way, plenty of fresh air can circulate throughout your home and you can keep it cool when the weather is warm without having to deal with the security risks associated with keeping your windows open.

Have the kitchen positioned relatively far away from the bedrooms

When a house has just one storey, then it is generally best to build it in such a way that the kitchen is positioned at the opposite end of the property from where the bedrooms are.

There are a couple of reasons why you should consider using this type of layout. The first is that if the kitchen is positioned beside or opposite a bedroom, the odour of any pungent-smelling meals that you cook in this space (such as spicy curries, deep-fried chips and so on) will waft into the bedrooms. Whilst the scent of these freshly cooked meals might be pleasant initially, they may not be quite as appealing when they are still lingering in your bedroom several hours or days later.

If, on the other hand, your kitchen is relatively far away from the bedrooms, there is very little chance of any odours generated in this space wafting into your sleeping area.

The second reason is that if the kitchen is close to the bedrooms, you might not be able to use your dishwasher early in the morning or late in the evening without waking up your family members who are trying to sleep. By ensuring that these rooms are not adjacent to one another, however, you should be able to do your laundry whenever you want without disturbing the other members of your household.

Repair Or Demolish Your Home

Hello, my name is Tony and this is my new blog. My friends are really impressed that I decided to start a blog after many years of avoiding computers and the internet. I was inspired to start this blog after a recent experience I had using a range of contractors. My house is pretty old and because I had no given it any love or attention over the past few years, it had fallen into disrepair. I contacted some contractors who came out to inspect the property. They then repaired what they could and demolished the rest. I learnt a lot during the process so I decided I had to write about it.
